Re: Recent Unrest Amongst Faughan Anglers
Sovereign,  by the wording of your reply and the time it had taken to reply to the previous thread, may mean that you are in some way connected to the management/ commitee of the Faughan Anglers. I hope not, in that way I can continue our discussion knowing that I am dealing with an educated and informed individual!

I congratulate you on advising persons to contact the anglers office for advice on rules and changes to current rules. What a pity our club didn't feel it necessary to advise their patrons, at the previous AGM that they were intent on cutting numbers by using a devious plan of late catch returns. Off course this is not the official line taken by our club. I guess as I have been an angler for some 30 years and enjoyed many years fishing the banks of the Faughan, a concerted angler I should say. Permit holder for 25 years plus!, that I have been left with a feeling of sadness at the cowardly practice the association has taken up!

It has come to my attention that this plan was well and truly discussed by commitee members towards season end of last year, as have a lot of rediculous ideas over the years, and been leaked to lets say, "those whose faces fit". At the minute various on-line communties are discussing the assocaitions actions, and I have to say they are not favourable of what is happening. A terrible piece of coverage for the club. I'm sure you'll agree that tongues do wag quite a bit on the banks of a river!

I have a question of which maybe you have the answer, whether you do, or do not, I will soon have my respsonse as this issue is being researched lets say for the legality of the clubs activites by a group of members. It should be pointed out, that this is a mix of members, some of which recieved their letter indicating the availability of their permit and others who have been informed that their permit may be withdrawn. All anglers have been with the club for along time. I'm sure I don't need to say that this is with regards the submission of late catch returns!

To the questions of which I hope you can help-

Why do you think the association/club have not updated their rules with regards to late catch returns?
The latest version of the rule book I have is 2004 and have not been able to find a more recent version, even with contacting the club for its advice. I'm sure you'll know that the rule book contains nothing on catch returns, and penalties associated!

Why has our club not informed all its members of the upcoming penalities with regard to late submission of catches?
Obviously the club would be well within its rights to cancel membership, only if it had advised its members that this was a possible outcome. Off course our club did not see fit to do this!
A recent online thread, a user recounts that he had been informed by a club official to have all his paperwork returned in a timely fashion, as the club intended to reduce numbers by using catch returns against those who have returned them late.

Why has it become ever more apparent that our club officials  have deemed that we should accept what is decided by the committee BEHIND CLOSED DOORS?
AGM's aside, I'm sure as you know our meetings have never had full attendance! I would say that this is more than likely 20% of the total number. When motions are taken by the committee surely this should involve the full club, not the 20% who have found time in their busy lifestylye to attend, whilst others are unable!

Why are we cutting numbers in our club?
Surely the number of patrons we have with our club was well thought out by previous committees. I hope that this was not for financial gain. Other angling clubs I am associated with control the number of memberships very closely why can we not?
Off course at the moment anglers are being reprimanded on catch returns, but this is widely thought to be a smoke screen for cutting the number of members!

It should be noted by anyone who reads this thread that the number of members that a club has, is passed by the committee at that time. Our club has taken a stance on reducing numbers, where it had made the mistake of taking on too many members. The current situation, enforcement of policy, unwritten and unadvised policy, has soured many stomachs off anglers young and old, long and short time permit holders alike. Our committee should be making decisions based on what's best for the club. Unfortunately we have a club which easily enforces it rules mainly upon those who carryout slight infractions and avoid dealing with those who use the waters of the Faughan for their own gain.

Sovereign- I hope you can restore my faith in a club which I have loved, questioned, and now have begun to loathe!
